Riding Program

McDonald Ranch is pleased to present our new Riding Program! No horse?  No problem!  We have horses you can use! When:  Fridays from 2pm-6pm, Saturdays from 9am-4pm Where:  Rincon Riders Arena Fees:  See details below Ages: 7+ What is Rincon Riders? This club is a junior auxiliary of the Sonoma County Riding and Driving Club. Until now this club catered to kids that had their own horses and trailers. It is now being opened to kids who want to learn about horses, without the requirement that they own a horse. Monthly meetings are held at the private arena owned by the Sonoma County Riding and Driving Club on Saddle Club Lane in Santa Rosa during good weather and at the private lodge at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds during winter months. In addition to learning about horses, these meetings teach kids leadership skills and provides them with a social group with common interests. The sessions cover information such as how to do health checks and there are speakers who will engage the kids on various educational subjects relating to horses. Junior members generally bring a sack lunch after the meeting to extend their time getting to know other members.  Rincon Riders is a separate non-profit organization working in conjunction with McDonald Ranch to provide youth without horses the opportunity to learn about horses, care, and riding.     Other opportunities offered to Rincon Rider members are monthly Play Days where kids play games on horse back winning ribbons. The cost of renting a horse for the day and participating in the Play Day is $85.00 and includes lunch. Each Play Day generally offers 5 to 6 events. “Play Days” occur once a month from May through October.   .   There are many other opportunities offered to members of Rincon Riders such as monthly trail rides to various parks, private ranches and beaches ($65/day rental fee), riding in parades and going on field trips. Once kids get involved with Rincon Riders, they will have many options and opportunities to occupy all their free time and meet other kids with common interests.   The club is for ages 7+. The meetings are held from 10:00 a.m. until noon and the fee to attend the monthly meetings is $10.00 for one year. The club director is Linda McDonald who can be contacted via e-mail at mcdonaldranchfun@yahoo.com
