McDonald Ranch’s Educational Support Program is probably the most successful program we have run in over 25 years of offering summer camps and after school programs. Our credentialed teacher works with the same group of 14 children each day; most of whom have been attending since the spring of 2020 when schools closed. The mornings are spent doing academic work. During the afternoons, the children are out on the ranch taking horse riding lessons, learning ceramics, shooting archery, playing field games, doing arts and crafts or interacting with the animals on the ranch. Their day begins at 8:00AM and parents pick children up between 3:00 and 5:00 each week day. The program has connected the children in a small social setting that we surely provide lifetime memories of the special time and place in their lives during what would otherwise be a stressful time during the pandemic. Parents have said their children “have never been happier in school and their lives”. Children come in asking “What are we going to do today” showing excitement for what they are learning and doing. Our teacher, Katja Loughman has an amazing energy and dynamic personality that all the children love. Their certified horse riding instructor has been training children for over 20 years. Some families have pulled out of the public school system as “home schoolers” and will remain in the program even after schools re-open. The fee for our program is $1,000.00 per month plus riding lessons. For more information, call the program director, Linda McDonald between 8AM and 8PM daily at 707 583 6711.
